A touch of computer keys, a blast of heat, and suddenly the Murry twins, Sandy and Dennys, are gasping in a shimmering desert land.  If only the brothers had normal parents, not a scientist mother and a father who experiments with space and time travel.  If only the Murry twins had noticed the note on the door of their mother's lab: Experiment In
Progress.  Please Keep Out
But it's too late for regrets.  There's a strange-and very small-person approaching, with a miniature mammoth in tow. . . .
At last it's Sandy and Dennys's turn for an adventure-an adventure that turns serious when they discover that "many waters" are coming to flood the desert.  The twins must find a way back home soon, or they will drown.  But how will they get back to their own time?  Can they?

Ann Marie Lee's narrative strength is a perfect match for L'Engle's powerful story of twin brothers Sandy and Dennys Murray, who take an extraordinary journey through time. We feel the frustration of two ordinary boys who are tired of winter's freeze and mildly disgruntled that they're not included in the scientific discoveries of their brilliant parents and siblings. Lee registers the twins' confusion when they press a computer key in their father's lab and find themselves in the middle of a desert. This is soon followed by curiosity and wonder as the boys realize they're in biblical times and that unicorns and angels abound. Later Lee conveys their caring for Yalith, Noah's young daughter, and their panic that neither she, nor they, will escape the coming flood. S.W. (c) AudioFile 2009, Portland, Maine
