EMT Anne Lundstrom is running from her past. But it's about to catch up. She thought she'd escaped it when she moved out of the city and into the quiet town of Deep Haven. She certainly never expected to get roped into helping Noah Standing Bear run his summer camp for inner-city kids. Yet Noah has a charisma she can't ignore, and romance is in the air. But when the very danger she was trying to escape threatens her peaceful haven—and her life—Anne must find the courage to face her fears and embrace the one man who can help her understand her past.

After recovering from a near-fatal gunshot wound, Anne Lundstrom is running as far as she can from the violence and despair she experienced working as an EMT on the streets of Minneapolis. Moving to a small town on Lake Superior where she can finish her nursing degree means a new life away from danger. So when she meets Noah Standing Bear, who looks just like the hoodlums she is trying to escape from, Anne's fear and prejudice prevent her from seeing the real man underneath the gruff exterior. Noah keeps pursing her, though, partly because he needs a medical professional for his ministry to succeed and partly because he wants to prove he is not who she thinks he is. The novel starts out slowly, but, as the relationship between Anne and Noah develops, it becomes a page-turner. Warren's characters are well developed, and she knows how to create a first-rate contemporary romance. This second "HeartQuest" title (after her Happily Ever After) is a romantic gem and should appeal to Dee Henderson's fans. Highly recommended for Christian fiction and romance collections.
